THE
GO-DOME

Go-Domes are specially manufactured
for Discovery Dome, and are air-supported, requiring no external frame
or structure. Made from a durable, three-layered fabric, the domes have
minimal skin porosity, allowing fans to be set on low speed once inflated.
Even at low speed, constant ventilation is a feature of the Go-Dome.
The outer layer of the dome fabric provides a protective shell, with the
choice of surface colour being either blue or black. The inner layer is
the projection surface and is light grey in colour. The middle layer
provides the flame retardant, allowing the domes to meet very
stringent fire safety requirements.

Go-domes are built without floors. In the event of an emergency where
evacuation is required, the operator can "flip" the
dome with a single pull, instantly releasing the audience (see
demonstration clip above).
The inflated airlock door limits air loss during entry and exit. The side
panels are fixed to the entrance floor with Velcro, and can be widened to
admit wheelchair users if necessary.
Additional vents in and around the dome allow the operator to adjust
airflow, directing stale air outward. Each dome comes with a Users Manual
and video on DVD.
Go-Domes are available in blue or black, and in a variety of sizes and styles, for different
uses.

|
Tubed Raised Domes
Four
tubes (rings) raise the dome sufficiently to accommodate adult audiences
seated on chairs, and
five tubes for
audiences
standing
|

Advantages
of raised
domes
Although more expensive and heavier, there are many advantages to raised
domes:
Usable
floor space
With non-ringed domes, the 'skirt' on the lower part of the dome
undercuts and reduces the floor area considerably,
which reduces capacity.
Rings on the other hand deliver the full usable floor space,
which increases capacity significantly over many shows.
More
robust
It is unavoidable that children will use the
'skirt' as a seating
area, and then lean back on
the dome. The resulting
dome distortion causes
light leakage, and
at times
can interfere with projection equipment
located at the edge of the dome. With ringed domes,
even if people lean against the edge it will not
affect the dome shape much.
More
rigid
With extra rings,
the unavoidable partial deflation of the dome during
entry and exit is less noticeable,
and the door maintains better rigidity.
